Sheriff deputies cleared

The New Hanover County Sheriffs Department says their internal investigation has concluded that they were not at fault in the death of Gary Rummer. Rummer died as a result of injuries he sustained in his jail cell. The death was ruled accidental by the District Attorney's office. It's reported that when Rummer was handcuffed by Deputy Billy Ray Hudson he fell and hit his head. Another inmate in the jail has given statements that he saw a deputy slam Rummer's head to the ground. But officials say an internal investigation disproved that report. So in their book the case is closed.
