Wilmington police conducted a sting operation Monday night hoping to clean up a neighborhood where residents have been complaining about prostitutes. A female officer from the Wilmington Police Department was put on the corner of Front and Meares Street as the bait. And it worked. Within five hours officers were able to arrest 8 men in the area who were soliciting prostitution. The men ranged from young to old. The professions varied from painters to truck drives. Most of the men approached the female officer offering 15 to 20 dollars for sexual favors. An offer that landed them in jail. Most of the men are facing misdemeanor charges of solicitation for prostitution. All of them have to take an AIDS test. If they test positive they'll receive a mandatory 2 years in prison.
