WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Wilmington/Cape Fear Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates the first offerings at the new Wilmington Convention Center will bring an economic impact of at least $16 million to the Port City.
The convention center, set to open later this year, has 35 contracts on the books and another 65 tentative events pending. Those events are expected to take place in 2011 and 2012.
The CVB has booked 13 events, while the management company for the convention center, SMG, has inked another 22 public and private events. The first event to take place at the new convention center will be the Cape Fear Wedding Show on November 14th.
