Military Cutoff Road is one of Wilmington's busiest areas. For years residents have complained about the heavy and sometimes even dangerous traffic on this two lane stretch of highway, and it's not getting any better; construction of the Mayfaire development could be making it worse. Once complete the development will house a large shopping complex that will bring in thousands of cars a day. A situation Wilmington City Councilmen Jason Thompson say city officials are concerned about.
"There was a fatal accident about a month ago. And there have been several accidents in that area"
Sometimes it takes up to 10 minutes for cars to merge onto to the road, but there is hope. The Department of Transportation says it is going to install 3 sets of traffic lights. Drivers in the area say those lights can't come fast enough.
