Neighbors deny helping Rudolph

In western North Carolina, Eric Rudolph eluded police for five years. Now, local residents are saying they did not help, nor would they have helped, the serial bombing suspect.

But Jeremy Blake Ford and others say they probably would not have turned Rudolph in. Ford, who rejects abortion rights and gay rights, says he believes Rudolph was making a statement.

The mayor of Murphy, where Rudolph was arrested, says the idea that the area is home to an army of sympathizers is not true. Bill Hughes says Rudolph is "an army of one."

Local resident Mike Trammell says he doubts Rudolph could have survived so well for so long without the help of someone, but that does not mean everyone.
