MTYT: Being a proud grandparent

Every time I hear grandparents talk about being grandparents, I can't help but notice, they light up.  They show pictures.  They talk gleefully about spending time with their grandchildren.  It's as if nothing else in this world matters.  I've even observed some of my friends do absolutely crazy things because of their love for their grandchildren.  What is it about being a grandpa or grandma that causes this type of behavior?

Well I'm about to find out.  Meet Adisyn Rochelle Mulhall.  I think she is probably the prettiest baby I've ever seen.  My wife and I recently became grandparents and I finally get to find out what this is all about.

At first, I thought I wouldn't be like all those other grandparents.  I'd be reserved.  I wouldn't brag. I wouldn't force pictures on anyone.  But I'm starting to find out, that's pretty hard to do.  I've already found myself saying, "I've got pictures," to just about anyone who comes close to the subject of grandkids.  This is nuts.

So I've decided I'm going to lower my expectations on my behavior a little.  I'm going to show lots of pictures.  I'm going brag about her.  And I'm even going to allow myself to act goofy when we play and spend time together.  But one thing I won't do, I'm still not going to wear one of those caps or t-shirts that says "World's Best Grandpa."   (pause) But if I come across one that says "Grandpa to the World's Best Granddaughter," now I'm down for that.

That's my turn.  Now it's your turn.  To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at yourturn@wect.com.

Gary I just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed your segment on Grandkids. I have 2 precious Granddaughters, ages 7 and 2. The oldest is the first girl in my family since me and I was 45 at the time she was born. I have 3 brothers and all 5 grandchildren were boys. So we were all so excited to finally have a girl. Now, all of my parents great-grandchildren are girls, 4 total. Having said all that, when my brother found out his son and daughter-in-law were pregnant, I told him, "William I promise you, you are getting ready to feel a love like you have never felt in your life. You love your wife, children, parents, siblings, etc, but the love for your grandchildren is totally different." His response was, no it will not be any different. Well long story short, when Taylor was about 3 months old, I asked him if I was right. He said, "you sure were." he now has another Granddaughter and is a pure fool over both of them.  I am sure you have already found out the same thing!!!!

Yes, I am a proud Grammy. I pull out the pictures, tell the stories about them because they are so funny. Yes, I act crazy and silly if that is what they want me to do. That is what being a grandparent is all about. Don't ask me about my babies because I will tell you!!!!!  LOL

Congratulations on your new addition. Enjoy her, spoil her, and just be a typical GrandPa.

Congratulations on your new granddaughter, Gary!  I became a grandmother 10 years ago and now have 2 grandsons.  These last years have been some of the best of my life, and I wouldn't trade them for a minute.  Enjoy, love and spoil that little girl all you can.  They grow up so fast!
