Chief Photographer Ryan Koresko has dedicated his entire career to working behind the camera at WECT. He has won 8 Best Photography awards and has been a part of more than 100 award-winning news stories covering everything from land-falling hurricanes, to Super Bowl XXXVIII, to President Obama's campaign. In 2010, Ryan won RTNDAC photographer of the year.
Ryan joined WECT in 1995, after graduating from UNCW, and has been Chief Photographer since 2000. An avid sports fan, he originally got into the TV business with the intention of landing a seat in the sports anchor's chair. However, it didn't take long for him to discover his true passion - telling stories through pictures.
One of his favorite on-the-job moments combined both of his passions. "I remember being there in Richmond when UNCW won their first CAA tournament in 2000," says Koresko, "UNCW had never made a NCAA tournament, and wasn't expected to do so. It was my alma mater, and I was wrapped up in the emotion. Normally, when I'm on a story I try to maintain a neutral position, but this time I found myself jumping up and down on the floor with the rest of the fans."
Even though Ryan calls himself an "Illinois native," he's now been in North Carolina almost twice as long. Nevertheless, he remains a die-hard fan of the Illini and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Ryan volunteers for the video production team at his church and has served on numerous panels for the UNCW Communication Studies Department. He enjoys softball, fantasy football, and spending quality time with his family.
