Nearly five months after Joseph Martin Johnson is accused of brutally stabbing to death 75-year-old Buren "Booty" Borneman, murder charges against him have been dismissed. District Attorney John Carriker says there is not enough evidence to prosecute. Carriker also said the primary witness is not cooperating.
Police say the murder was especially vicious, and it triggered a region-wide hunt for Borneman's red pick up truck with its "Booty" vanity license plate. The truck was found near Johnson's Wrightsboro mobile home.
Some of his neighbors told News Six that Johnson was likely the killer, and had been helped by his girlfriend, who also had a relationship with Borneman. Carriker says police now must once again find a murderer.
