Carolina Beach has long stretches of pristine sand. But some beach-goers are complaining what's underfoot isn't always sand. Sometimes it's what dogs leave behind.
It's illegal for dogs to be on the beach from March through November, yet you'll still find plenty out there. The public access on Periwinkle Lane is lined with droppings.
"I can't even sit down on the beach any more," says Bunny Robinson, a beach resident for more than 15 years.
Some say the town is sending a bad message by not enforcing the "no dogs" ordinance. The town says, with all that ground to cover, it would need to hire an enforcement officer -- something it can't afford.
