Alex becomes a hurricane

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Tropical Storm Alex was upgraded to a hurricane on Tuesday night. Hurricane Warnings are posted for the Texas and Mexico coastline.

The hurricane is located in the south central Gulf of Mexico, and expected to make landfall as a category 1 hurricane sometime late Wednesday.

Alex is the first named storm of what forecasters believe will be a very active season. Seasonal predictions of 14 to 23 named storms are forecast by meteorologists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
