Widow fraud

A California man who has been on the run since 1999 after being convicted of scamming elderly widows has been arrested in Concord, New Hampshire.

Officials say 71-year-old Richard Garcia had been wanted on a probation violation following his conviction for financial abuse of the elderly. Police had tracked him to North Carolina and Florida.

Authorities say Garcia would attend senior citizen dances, romance widows and eventually scam them for their money. Officials say Garcia violated probation by not staying away from his last victim and by attending more dances.

It was not clear why Garcia was in New Hampshire, or what led to his arrest.
