Police say a South Carolina man died over the weekend when he fell from a golf cart on a resort island where other vehicles are banned.
The victim is identified as Brian K. Jordan of Charleston, South Carolina. He died Sunday of head injuries suffered in the fall. Jordan was on the island to attend a wedding.
Police Chief Ken Snead says Jordan was sitting in the rear seat of a four-passenger golf cart that took a sharp right turn about 11:00 p.m. Saturday. Jordan, who was sitting on the left side, fell off the golf cart and struck his head on the pavement. He was airlifted by helicopter to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he died Sunday afternoon.
The golf cart driver, identified as Chadwick Timms, who is also from Charleston, was traveling between five and 10 miles per hour when the accident occurred on the island, where the speed limit is 18 mph. About 1,900 golf carts are registered on the island.
