Authorities say a human skull found in the attic of an unoccupied Fayetteville house belonged to a man in his 30s.
Workers cleaning the house Tuesday found the skull in a bag. The house had been empty for about a year.
Authorities say they're investigating any connection to the discovery of the headless body of a man in a lake in the subdivision five years ago. The house is about a mile from the lake.
Three people were charged in the killing of 29-year-old Mauricio Raul Campana of Miami in that case. One man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2000 and was sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.
The skull was sent to the state medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill yesterday. An autopsy report is expected in about three weeks.
