NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – There were some close races during the Primary Election last week and of them might not be over.

Brian Berger, who lost to incumbent Bill Caster by a narrow margin, says he will most likely request a new primary for the New Hanover County Commissioner seat.  The announcement was made during the vote canvass Tuesday afternoon at the County Government Headquarters.

At first, county elections officials thought Rev. James Utley had an option to ask for a recount against Susi Hamilton for a North Carolina House seat.  Official results show he only lost by about 60 votes.  Utley told us he was considering the option.

However, late Tuesday afternoon, county officials discovered Utley was out of the margin to ask for a recount.  That race is officially over with Hamilton as the winner.

Berger has until noon Thursday to make a decision.
