A high school varsity football coach has been suspended for allegedly slapping a student earlier this month.
Bill Wyrick was accused of hitting the student during a weightlifting class at Western Harnett High School. He was charged yesterday with simple assault, a misdemeanor.
Wyrick was suspended Monday. School officials wouldn't say how long the suspension will last.
One day after the alleged incident, the student's uncle filed a complaint with school officials. The family later filed a report with the Harnett County Sheriff's office.
Wyrick has worked at Western Harnett for more than four years.
