WILMIGNTON, NC (WECT) - Two years ago, when I started working here, I gained an instant liking for one of our engineers. His name was Jim Cochran.
Both of us grew up in West Virginia. So that common bond made it easy to get acquainted. But the more I learned about Jim, and the more I worked with him, the more I liked him -- and it was like that for everyone.
He treated each person the same – with kindness and respect. He had a servant's heart, and genuinely cared for those around him. He quietly touched the lives of all of us here.
Last week we lost Jim to cancer. He was only 57. I've had the good fortune of reading the many tributes that have come to the station from friends, coworkers and former coworkers. They all shared a great love and respect for one of the kindest men I've ever known.
We're going to miss Jim. He was not tall in stature, but he was a giant in our hearts. My wish for you is that you have someone like Jim Cochran in your life. Because, for those of us who had the good fortune of knowing him, we are much better for it.
Jim Cochran - rest in peace my friend and know that you've made this world a better place.
