BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Harold "Butch" Pope ended the long-time career of District Attorney Rex Gore Tuesday night with a victory in the Democratic primary, aided largely in part by a strong showing Pope's home turf of Columbus County.
The District Attorney position represents Bladen, Columbus and Brunswick Counties. Pope used a 2400 vote cushion in Columbus County to push past Gore with 56% of the vote.
Gore has been District Attorney in this area since 1991, covering five terms.
Pope grabbed the Democratic nomination and will face Jon David, the Republican nominee who ran unopposed in his primary Tuesday night, in November.
