NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The race for New Hanover County's Republican seat in the State Senate turned negative quickly, but after the competitive and outspoken campaign there was a clear winner Tuesday night.
It was a competition between two Wilmington attorneys – Thom Goolsby and Michael Lee. Their campaigns began in July and have been filled with barbs and accusations ever since.
As results trickled in for the Primary Elections, it was clear Goolsby had the upper hand in the battle. Though he is relieved the race is over, he says he has a lot of work cut out for him in the coming months to prepare for the elections in November.
"I've got to get out there and speak to people about issues that matter to them, particularly jobs, the economy, taxation, and how the public is going to bring back jobs and lower taxes, lower spending and build North Carolina to the state it needs to be," said Goolsby.
Goolsby will join Carolina in the Morning Wednesday to talk about the election.
