NEW HANOVER, NC (WECT) - Buffalo Wild Wings off Market Street in Wilmington is moving to new location on Eastwood Road but that move could force an oak tree that's at least 100 years old to be chopped down.
Cheston Peterson, who lives in Wilmington was hoping to rally supporters to help save the tree.
"From what I've heard, the tree is set to be cleared Tuesday. It's Sunday now. Of course, we're running short on time. If anything it's the opportunity for people to become aware of what's going on and where development is taking place. Just pay attention, said Cheston Peterson.
Peterson says, he's not against cutting trees down, making room for new businesses.
"It's great to see business growing. But in this situation we can potentially hold on to to something like that. Something old. Maybe it can be a focal point of the restaurant. I think that would be great for our community, said Peterson.
W called buffalo wild wings but were unable to get a comment on the oak tree.
The new buffalo wild wings restaurant is scheduled to open in August.
