Utley would have told Titan no

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - If he had a say in the matter, Reverend James Utley says he would have told Titan Cement not to open a plant in New Hanover County.

Utley is a Democrat running for the House District 18 seat, which covers part of New Hanover County.

Now that the decision has been made and Titan is working on getting all the permits, Utley says you have to let the process continue.

"It is an issue that has us in crisis mode," James Utley said on WECT News at 5:30 Friday.  "When we're in crisis mode you have to be careful what you're doing.  It is on the table right now.  When our officials first looked at that, they should have taken a better look at it."

Utley says his priorities in the General Assembly would be better paying jobs, quality education, protecting and improving the environment and quality care for our veterans and seniors.

Utley says the proposed Cape Fear Skyway Bridge between Brunswick and New Hanover Counties will be a good project for the region, but he says we need to prioritize projects.  He says we should complete the I-40 bypass first.
