WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A member of the UNCW Board of Trustees confirmed that Ed Conroy, the head coach of the Citadel men's basketball team, has turned down an offer for the same position at UNCW.

Conroy was offered the job last week.  He was also in Tulane Monday to interview for the head coaching job there.

Late Tuesday afternoon, the UNCW Board of Trustees Executive Committee met in closed session for one hour with no announced resolution.

The Board went into closed session at 3:45 Tuesday afternoon.

The agenda item for consideration that was discussed in closed session as allowed under the Open Meetings Act in order to "establish or instruct the staff or agent concerning the negotiation of the amount of compensation or other terms of an employment contract" and to "consider the qualifications, competence, performance, condition of appointment of a public officer or employee or prospective public officer or employee."

Mark Lanier, assistant secretary to the Board of Trustees, told WECT.com only that they did meet to discuss a personnel issue and nothing came out of the meeting.  Lanier would not say if the meeting had anything to do with Conroy or other coaching candidates.
