Competition gets tough for long-time politicians

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Long-time House Representative Dewey Hill will face some competition during the May Primary.

Chadbourn Mayor Ken Waddell filed to challenge the incumbent, because he feels like Columbus County and rural parts of Brunswick County are being overlooked in regards to new jobs.

Also running for House Representative in District 20, is Republican Tristan Patterson of Tabor City.

The race for District Attorney in the 13th District will be a heated race.  Rex Gore (D) is seeking a sixth term, but will face Republican Jon David and Democrat Harold "Butch" Pope for the position.

Gore and David went head-to-head for the position in 2006.  David received more votes than Gore in both Bladen and Columbus Counties, but Gore's popularity in Brunswick County is what guaranteed his re-election.

It appears as if the Columbus County Sheriff title will remain untouched, with Sheriff Chris Batten running unopposed.
