PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The chairman for Pender County's Board of Commissioners has his eyes on a new position.
Jimmy Tate is serving his thirst year as commissioner, but Monday he filed for the Clerk of Court job in Pender County. He was surrounded by supporters as he filed the proper paperwork at the Board of Elections office in Burgaw.
Tate (D) will be running against incumbent Robert Kilroy (R) who also filed for the position Monday.
"I'd like to be able to take the excitement and energy that I have," said Tate. "I've had the opportunity to work with many different departments here in the county, and the courts is fascinating to me. That's a way that I think I can make a big difference with the people of this county on a day-to-day basis."
Tate says he will not resign from his commissioners position while seeking election for the Clerk of Courts.
