LUMBERTON, NC (WECT) - Congressman Mike McIntyre made it official Tuesday when he filed a bid for re-election.

The Democrat was first elected to the house in 1996. He serves in senior positions on both the House Agriculture and Armed Services Committees. He is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Rural Development and is Vice-Chairman of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Terrorism.

In 2009 McIntyre was considered as a possible opponent to run against Richard Burr for North Carolina's Senate Seat. He admittedly thought about it for a while, but formally announced his decision not to pursue the upper chamber last fall.

Republicans Will Breazeale and Ilario Pantano have both announced their desires to unseat McIntyre in a general election.
