Lock down lifted at New Hanover High School

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Two schools were locked down for a short period of time Wednesday afternoon, according to Valita Quattlebaum.

Authorities say Williston Middle and New Hanover High Schools were locked down, after a teacher saw a man on a bike with a gun near 13th and Ann Streets.

Police searched the area but did not find a threat so students were dismissed on time.

Several law enforcement officers were on campus and in the school's parking lot when students were allowed to leave.

Gregory School of Science, Mathematics and Technology was not on lock down because they were dismissed at 2:30.

Quattlebaum said the call system will alert parents about the incident some time Wednesday evening.
