NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Many residents who live near a new public boat access ramp in New Hanover County are concerned about the riff-raff the public may bring to the facility.
Work is almost complete on the new Trail's End Park in New Hanover County. The one-acre park will feature an additional boat ramp for the public - right now there are only four public ramps in the county.
County leaders say the new addition will give people with small boats, canoes, and kayaks another place to set sail, but not everyone is sold on the idea.
"I'm just a little worried about the traffic and some of the people that come down," said James Lane who lives on a boat next door at the Masonboro Yacht Club Marina.
Lane likes the idea of having another boat access, but is concerned about what problems the new facility could bring.
"In the last month or so we have had 5 or 6 break-in's at the marina on our cars," said Lane. "Now they may not have anything to do with it but it seems since it's become a county park we've had more problems."
Jeff Flower, on the other hand, is excited about the new access ramp saying he believes it will improve the area.
"I think it would actually help preserve it, now that it's under state control,"said Flower.
Deputies say they will be patrolling the area regularly.
The boat ramp is expected to open and available for used in March and the park will open sometime this summer.
