Heavy smokes billows between New Hanover and Brunswick line

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT)- We have received a number of calls about a huge plume of smoke in the skies over Wilmington and parts of Brunswick County.

Scott Garner, the Emergency Management Director of Brunswick tells us the smoke is coming from a control burn.

75 acres of a wooded area are being burned on Tuesday by the North Carolina Division of Forest Service. This is part of a total 200 acres that are planned to be burned this week alone. The fire is located near the Old Fort Golf Club on highway 133 near Winnabow.

The wind has caused the smoke to drift here into New Hanover County where it has peaked the curiosity of a number of people.
