FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WECT) - An Elizabethtown woman was arrested on charges that she left her son at a convenience store on New Year's Eve.

The case is being investigated by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. In a report released on Friday detectives say the incident started when 36-year old Dorothy Doyle got in an argument with her son while driving. According to the report Doyle wanted to go a friend's house and the boy wanted to go home. Doyle forced her son out of the car at the Kangaroo gas station in Spring Lake and left her 15-year old son unattended and unsupervised for approximately eight hours.

Cumberland Deputies say they attempted to contact Doyle on numerous occasions but she did not return calls until around 3:30 a.m. on New Years Day.

Doyle surrendered to authorities on Thursday (1-14-2010.) She was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a 500 dollar unsecured bond. She is formally charged with child abuse and juvenile neglect.
