WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - United Methodist Church in Wrightsville Beach is collecting relief supplies, including 1,200 lbs of food for victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
A member of the church got a text message from a friend in Haiti saying they needed help.
United Methodist Church is joining efforts with a Methodist church in Clayton, North Carolina.
"One half of my heart is grieving because of all of the things I know are going on down there, and the other half is just uplifting joy about how people have stepped up the plate immediately with checks and goods and medical supplies," says Sande Kirby, who has friends in Haiti. "We have everything they need right here."
The churches plan to fill a plane with the relief supplies and they hope to fly the supplies out of the state tomorrow to get them to the affected area as soon as possible.
They are accepting donations from anyone wanting to help.
