COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Town of Bolton has named Darryl Decotis as their new police chief.

Dectois was chosen in part by the Police Advisory Committee which is made up of citizens, city leaders, and police officers from other departments.

He says he plans to work with residents to reduce crime.

"I'm looking forward to meeting the members of the community to find out what their perspectives of the problem are," said Decotis.  "I don't want to go in blind and tell them what the problems are, I want to hear it from their perspective."

Bolton residents had been relying on law enforcement services from the Lake Waccamaw Police Department and the Columbus County Sheriff's Office for the past two years.

In 2009, Bolton received a $600,000 federal grant to revitalize the town's police department.

Town officials said the new department should be operating towards the end of March.
