FORT BRAGG, N. C. (AP) - More than 100 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division will deploy to help Haiti as part of a massive international effort to alleviate the effects of this week's earthquake.
The paratroopers from the 1st Battalion, 73rd Infantry will deploy Thursday to support humanitarian operations in Haiti. The rest of the battalion of about 800 soldiers is scheduled to deploy Friday.
President Obama has promised an all-out rescue and humanitarian effort including military and civilian emergency teams from across the U.S. The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson was expected to arrive off the coast Thursday.
