Police and friends raise money for late Wilmington officer

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A restaurant is trying to help raise money for a Wilmington Police Officer who lost his battle with brain cancer last month.

Sergeant Joseph "Jody" McPherson died on December 21, 2009 from Stage 2 Astrocytoma. Immediately after his death, his colleagues and friends established a college savings fund for his 2-year-old twin boys, Jacob and Joseph.

Thursday, January 14, the Chick-fil-A on Oleander will donate 15% of all proceeds between 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM The evening is being called the "Sergeant Joseph "Jody" McPherson Fundraiser Night." The event will directly benefit the family fund.

McPherson was a graduate of Appalachian State. One of his old fraternity brothers has built a FaceBook page in his memory. You can check out that page by clicking here.

The restaurant is located at 3389 Oleander Drive in Wilmington.
