NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The wife of a man who was killed by his landlord earlier this month is being charged with accessory after the fact.
According to the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office's, Mary Bruno, 50, was charged Tuesday and is being held under a $1 million secured bond.
Last week, Dennis Benjamin Roy confessed to assaulting her husband, Carmine Bruno, with a baseball bat several times while he was sleeping.
According to deputies, Roy was upset over the way Bruno spoke with his wife. Initially Bruno said she was given drugs, which kept her in an incoherent state for a few days.
After further investigation, authorities have determined Bruno was not incoherent and was an active participant in the death of her husband.
Roy was charged with first degree murder and being held in the New Hanover County Detention Facility without bond.

Authorities believe the beating was pre-meditated, because the victim had extra wounds after he was knocked out.
