WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo has said he is not interested in running for State Senate, but one of his colleagues on the City Council may want the job.

In a Facebook message to WECT Councilwoman Kristi Tomey says she is considering running for the senate seat vacated by Julia Boseman.

Tomey is an independent and would need to get just under 6,000 signatures to get on the November ballot. In her message to us she says she is seriously considering the run and will make a decision in the next two days.

Two Republicans, Thom Goolsby and Michael Lee, have announced their intentions to run for the seat. So far no Democrats have officially announced although for UNCW Chancellor They, and any other Republican hopefuls, will meet in a GOP primary in May to see who goes on the ballot. No Democrats have officially announced their candidacy.

Tomey is in her first term on City Council. She won election to her seat in 2007
