COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Bolton town officials say they're close to hiring a new police chief, and have finished narrowing down the finalists.

In December officials had four candidates, but now they believe they have found their guy.  The police department will officially announce their chief later this week.

In 2009, Bolton received a $600,000 federal grant to revitalize the town's police department.

Bolton residents have been relying on law enforcement services from the Lake Waccamaw Police Department and the Columbus County Sheriff's Office for the past two years.

Town officials said the new department should be operating towards the end of March.
