WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The City of Wilmington has postponed a controlled burn that was originally scheduled for Halyburton Park Wednesday.
The North Carolina Forest Service and the Wilmington Fire Department will supervise the fire that will clear between 15 and 20 acres of land.
The burn will minimize the risk of wild fires and make it easier for native plant species to grow in the spring.
When a controlled burn took place earlier this year, residents were fearful it might get out of control. But this time, residents are okay with the plans because the first burn was successful.
A new date for the burn has not yet been set.
