NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - An email has one New Hanover County school board member angry at another.

Elizabeth Redenbaugh, who serves on the school board, received an email Don Hayes forwarded to all board members.  She says the information in the email is racist.

Hayes forwarded an article from a black author's position on black education.

The author claims African American students have the lowest test scores in the nation's largest cities, and that many black students are "hostile to the education process."

The article also says black kids are virtually useless in a growing technology based economy.

Hayes agrees with the statements made, but says he would not have used the author's exact words.

Hayes believes stirring up controversy is part of Redenbaugh's plan to push her position on New Hanover County's middle school redistricting to make schools more diverse.

Redenbaugh, however, denies that claim.
