COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A man is in a Columbus County hospital after deputies say he led them on a high speed chase.

Steven Parker is accused of stealing a car from someone's yard in Chadbourn.

Sheriff's Deputies pursued the car as it made it's way into the town of Brunswick. Eventually the State Highway Patrol joined in the chase.

At one point officers got out of their cars and tried to make a road block. They say Parker did not slow down and continued driving directly toward their vehicles. Officers fired at Parker hitting him once in the shoulder.

A cruiser for both State Highway Patrol and the Sheriff's Department suffered minor damage after reportedly being hit by the stolen car.

Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten says the SBI is investigating the shooting. At this point it is unclear whether a state trooper or a deputy shot parker.

Parker is in the Columbus Regional Health Care System in Stable Condition.
