WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Local Liberty Tax Service stores are collecting old or damaged cell-phones to help soldiers overseas call their loved ones.

The phones will be recycled into calling cards for soldiers to use when calling home.

On Saturday, people who dropped off phones, got a slice of pizza and were eligible for raffle prizes.

The event was also a way to remind people that tax season is upon us.

Liberty Tax estimates that the Cell Phone for Soldiers program has provided about 400,000 calling minutes for troops serving overseas.
