BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The towns of St. James and Oak Island may be finding a way to live peacefully when it comes to annexation.
St. James town council members reviewed a proposed compromise agreement on annexation between the two towns at a meeting this week. Oak Island leaders plan to look at the proposal next week.
Mayors of both towns came up with the plan as a way to end a disagreement between the two municipalities.
In essence, St. James will give up on a plan to annex part of its city to the west, and Oak Island will not try to add any land to the north.
The compromise would save both towns from heading to court.
