FORT FISHER, NC (WECT)- A rare Hawksbill Turtle will leave the The North Carolina Aquarium and head towards its new home at Sea World in Orlando, Florida Wednesday afternoon.

The turtle was discovered last week by someone walking on a beach in Corolla, North Carolina.  The Hawksbill was first taken to the Aquarium on Roanoke Island in Manteo for care, and then later was taken to the Fort Fisher Aquarium.

These turtles are not typically found in our waters and are critically endangered.

This one is a juvenile, probably about a year old. After it receives treatment at Sea World the hope is that it will eventually be released in Florida waters where it is typically found.
