WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A bar owner in Monkey Junction is blaming the statewide smoking ban for a decline in business.
Smitty's 421 Tavern owner, Deborah Tinae, said most of her patrons were retirees who would go to smoke cigarettes and socialize during the daytime.
Now, she said many would rather stay home where they aren't subjected to the smoking restrictions.
Tinae said she is starting a petition for people who think individual businesses should decide whether they want to be smoke-free establishments.
She plans to send it to lawmakers in Raleigh.
