WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - There were fewer murders in Wilmington in 2009 than at any time in the past 15 years, according to preliminary crime statistics from the Wilmington Police Department.
Three murders were reported in 2009, compared to 13 in 2008. Arrests were made in all three cases.
Year-end totals for 2009 also reflect moderate decreases in robbery and auto theft.
Authorities report, overall serious crime increased somewhat in 2009, reversing the downward trend of the past six years. They say increase in reported larcenies accounts for most of the overall increase.
