WALLACE, NC (WECT) - Two stores in Duplin County are selling gas at below average rates in efforts to attract the most customers.
The Wilco Hess Station in Wallace and the Murphy USA Station are both selling gas for two dollars and 15 cents a gallon.
Drivers in the area are thrilled with the so called "Gas War."
Leana Brewington, a customer, is grateful the prices are dropping. "I think they're great," says Brewington, "if they can lower their prices, the rest of the stations can do the same thing."
Customers believe there may be some sort of a competition behind the low prices.
Ned Johnson says, "I think they are trying to compete with each other."
Sunday, Murphy USA dropped their prices yet again, this time to $2.13.
Some people feel that the prices will go up again soon, but until then, customers don't mind saving a few cents.
Representatives from both Wilco Hess and Murphy USA never admitted to the gas war, but many believe it is Murphy USA's goal to price its gas two cents less than the competition.
