PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - While investigators in Pender County search for Tiffany Dawkins' killer, her loved ones are waiting for justice to be served.
According to Pender County authorities, the 23-year-old woman was shot and killed on N.C. 133 in Rocky Point. Her body was found Sunday after several motorists called 911.
Whoever was responsible for shooting Tiffany took all of her identification, so family members had to call a detective to identify her by tattoos on her body.
Family members say they're struggling to understand why this happened and are searching for answers.
"I just want whoever did it found and punished," said Tiffany's grandmother Katherine Dawkins. "She didn't deserve this."
The loss of Tiffany could have the biggest impact on two of the youngest family members - her daughters 4 and 3 years old.
"It's tragic," said Tiffany's aunt Shelby Griswold. "How do you explain to a 3 and 4 year old Mama's not coming home? How do you explain that to them?"
Tiffany's children are staying with their father while family members plan her funeral.
Pender County Deputies have located Tiffany's car. It is being stored at the Pender County Sheriff's Office for evidence processing.
