Two congressman, one from North Carolina, are leading the charge in changing menus at three House of Representative buildings to protest France's refusal to endorse a United States invasion of Iraq.
Ohio Congressman Bob Ney is chairman of the House Administration Committee and has jurisdiction over what's printed on restaurant menus at the three US House buildings. He's banishing all so-called "French" foods from House cafeterias.
Nay says any member of Congress who wants to eat fried potatoes or egg-battered toast will have to order "Freedom Fries" or "Freedom Toast." Both he and Third District Congressman Walter Jones are personally changing the cafeteria menus today in protest of France's action at the United Nations. A restaurant in Beaufort, which is in Jones' home district, has changed "french fries" to "freedom fries."
