WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The City of Wilmington will give the centralized taxi stand another try New Year's Eve.
City officials and local taxi companies will have the stand on Front Street, on either side of Market Street.
The taxi stand is designed to help people find cabs and exit downtown Wilmington more safely and efficiently than before.
Beginning at 10:00 Thursday night, cars will not be allowed to park along that portion of the road. Cars that aren't moved from the area will be ticketed.
The first taxi stand trial was during Halloween, and the concept has gone through some changes over the past months.
Taxis will pick up passengers on a first-come, first-serve basis, in an effort to minimized the time people walk around looking for rides.
Authorities say they will not close down any roads in downtown Wilmington unless they decide they need to better control traffic in the area.
