BOSTON, MA (WECT) - Joe Keiley, a former member of our WECT family, has been selected by the United States Navy to join its Public Affairs Officer Training School.

Keiley, who officially learned his acceptance yesterday, was given one of four open positions in the program.

"Going into the Navy has been on my mind for a while," said Keiley from his home in Boston, Massachusetts. "There was a time in high school when I thought I had to make a huge life decisions: either go into journalism or serve in the Navy. I see the public affairs position as a way for me to pursue both my passions."

The Navy runs in the Keiley family, his dad served for a few years during the 1960's.

In Early 2010, Keiley will attend the training school in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon graduation he will go into active service as Ensign Keiley.

"The thing that scares me the most right now is all the running I will have to do," said Keiley.  "I keep telling myself; ' Get in shape! Get in shape!' I'm working out on the treadmill now. I just hope I am ready before time is up."

Joe was a reporter and weekend anchor at WECT from 2005 to 2008.
