BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The emergency services director for Brunswick County will soon retire from county government.
Randy Thompson has led the area through hurricanes, floods, and fires for almost a decade, and has spent more than 30 years in the field.
While Thompson's last official day will be Dec. 23, he received a send off from Bolivia a week in advance.
Thompson said he plans to work full time for a disaster management firm and stay in Brunswick County.
The process of finding a new emergency director will begin in January.
