WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A woman accused of hiding her mother's corpse in the family's home for seven months made her first court appearance Thursday.
During the trial, Amy Stewart, 47, asked for a court-appointed defense attorney and did not enter a plea. She is facing felony charges for concealment of death.
Stewart did not appreciate the cameras following her out of the courtroom and refused to comment.
Authorities received a phone call Tuesday morning saying Blanche Roth was unconscious inside her home on Cherry Laurel Court in Wilmington. According to officials, the 87-year-old woman died sometime in the spring of 2009.

District Attorney Ben David said five people were living in the home with the decaying body. He says anyone who knew about the death can be charged with a misdemeanor for concealment of death.
The District Attorney's Office is investigating claims that Stewart was concealing Roth's death to collect her mother's social security check.
Stewart posted bond and was released from jail Wednesday night.
